Birth Doula

Labor Doula
A birth or labor doula is a non-medical professional who provides emotional, informational, physical, and practical support for the laboring mother or couple.  A doula will help the laboring couple be more effective and help them work together to form an ideal team.  Dozens of research studies have conclusively shown that birth doulas not only help the mother emotionally, but also increase the chance of her having a healthier birth and newborn.

Pregnancy and Postpartum Massage

Prenatal massage is the therapeutic bodywork which focuses on the special needs of the mother-to-be as her body goes through the dramatic changes of the childbirth experience. Massage gives special attention to the mother-to-be which, in turn, nurtures new life that grows within her.

Postpartum Massage is designed to help in restoring your body to its pre-pregnancy condition and to address the stress of carrying and caring for a newborn.

Hypnosis for Pregnancy and Childbirth

Hypnosis before, during and after pregnancy and childbirth teaches the mom and her birth partner to use her natural instincts, trust her body, release emotions and facilitate relaxation. Using hypnosis, the mom is not in a sleep or trance state, she is aware and fully in control, but profoundly relaxed.

The state of hypnosis eliminates the Fear-Tension-Pain Syndrome before, during and after labor and can shorten the first stage of labor by hours. Hypnosis allows the mom to call on her body’s own relaxant to eliminate discomfort and the need for medication.

Hypnosis promotes deep breathing techniques that help the birth and eliminates stress from the baby’s body during and after the birth. It can even help assist to turn a baby that is in a breech presentation to a more appropriate birth position.

The use of hypnosis during birth has shown to result in significantly fewer surgical births while promoting the bonding between mom, baby and birth companion.

Hypnosis Applications:

  • Planning Pregnancy & Preparing the Body for Fertility
  • During Pregnancy
  • Delivery
  • Postpartum
  • Breastfeeding
  • Mother, Baby and Family Bonding

Joyce Ann Leaf teaches Hypnosis for pregnancy in a series of five 2 ½ hour classes. Teaching Mom and her birth partner the joy of experiencing birth in a more comfortable manner. Group and private sessions are available.
